A Quick Glance at Interactive Email Forms in Salesforce Marketing Cloud

One of the exciting features introduced in the recent release of Salesforce Marketing Cloud is the Interactive Email Form Block. This powerful functionality allows you to collect information directly from within the email itself, eliminating the need to redirect customers to external web pages. In this blog post, we'll take a closer look at the Interactive Email Form Block and explore its capabilities.

What is the Interactive Email Form Block?

The Interactive Email Form Block enables you to gather customer information seamlessly within the email. Traditionally, you would direct customers to a web page for data collection, but with Interactive Email, you can simplify the process by incorporating the form directly into the email itself. This enhances the user experience and increases engagement.

It's important to note that while Interactive Email Forms are a powerful tool, they are not universally supported across all email clients. Currently, Interactive Email

Forms are supported in the following email clients:
  • Apple iPhone
  • Apple iPad
  • Apple Mail
  • Gmail Webmail
  • Gmail App
  • Yahoo Webmail
  • AOL Webmail

Please be aware that Interactive Email Forms are not supported in Outlook and Thunderbird.

Creating an Email with Interactive Email Form Block:

Creating an interactive email is straightforward and follows the same process as creating any other email content. Here are the steps to create an email with an Interactive Email Form Block:
  1. Drag and drop the email form content block into your email.
  2. Choose a pre-defined template or start with an empty template to customize your design.
  3. Select the appropriate input types for your form, such as text fields, drop-down menus, radio buttons, checkboxes, rating options, and single or multi-select images and buttons.

Interactive Email Cloud Page:

Before creating an interactive email, you need to have an interactive email cloud page. When creating the cloud page, ensure you select the interactive email page type. This page is where customers will be directed after submitting the form in the email.

Fallback State Content Block:

To account for cases where interactive emails are not supported, it's recommended to include a fallback state content block. This block defines the content that will be rendered when interactive features are not compatible. While optional, it's considered a best practice to enhance the user experience.

Enabling Interactive Content Block in Content Builder:

If you do not see the Interactive Content Block in the Content Builder, you may need to enable it in the Content Builder settings within your Salesforce Marketing Cloud setup. If the block is not found even after enabling it, contact Salesforce support for further assistance.

Data Capture:

During the creation of your email form, you can choose an existing data extension or create a new one to capture the submitted data. This allows you to seamlessly integrate the collected information into your Salesforce Marketing Cloud database for further analysis and personalized marketing efforts.

Error Logging:

In case of any errors during form submission, records are added to the error log, which can be found in the Data Extensions folder under "Interactive Content." The error log captures important information, such as the timestamp of the error, subscriber details, target data extension information, submitted data, error messages, and the email's web link.

Note: The error log only appears when an error occurs for the first time. If data is not captured, and you cannot find the error log, double-check the configuration of your cloud page. It's crucial to avoid removing the email form block from the interactive cloud page; instead, consider displaying no content if necessary.

Dynamic Content in Interactive Email Blocks:

I have 10 products and I want to get them all reviewed within a single email. What can I do in this scenario?

Hidden variables or form attributes can't be dynamic. consider the below points:
  1. You can create a single interactive content block for all the products. (can become huge)
  2. Create one content block per product. Loop them in the AMPScript and include the ones necessary in the email.
  3. Create a cloud page with dynamic UI and have a CTA in the email. (Traditional way, not interactive content.)
